SAPIENT Helpdesk

SAPIENT Developer Toolkit

Open tools for building, testing and integrating SAPIENT / BSI Flex 335 systems. Need to develop, debug or test a SAPIENT node? Start here.

The tools

Three open-source tools, each usable on its own. Together they cover writing a SAPIENT node, watching what it puts on the wire, and checking that it behaves as BSI Flex 335 requires.

  • Test

    Test harness

Runs a real SAPIENT session against your Edge Node or Fusion Node and reports conformance findings, including sequencing, acknowledgement and mode-tracking errors that parsing alone can't catch.

    • Windows · Linux · macOS
    • Automated and interactive modes
    • JSON output for CI
  • Build

    Language bindings

Generated message types for BSI Flex 335 v1.0 and v2.0, plus the length-prefixed framing every SAPIENT TCP connection needs, so you can send your first message without writing boilerplate.

    • Rust · Python · C# · Go · Java
    • MIT or Apache-2.0
  • Debug

    Wireshark dissector

Decodes SAPIENT traffic in Wireshark and tshark, field by field, using the published schema. For debugging integrations, reading captures from trials and settling interoperability questions.

    • Wireshark · tshark
    • BSI Flex 335 v1.0 and v2.0

Who it's for

  • Sensor and Edge Node developersMaking a sensor or effector register, report and accept tasks over SAPIENT.
  • Fusion Node and C2 developersConsuming detections and alerts, and tasking Edge Nodes.
  • Integration engineersConnecting systems from different suppliers and finding out which side is wrong.
  • Trial and test teamsChecking nodes before they arrive at a range, and diagnosing them once they're there.

The standard comes first

SAPIENT is defined by BSI Flex 335, published by BSI. The UK Government's SAPIENT guidance on GOV.UK explains the programme and links to the official material, and DSTL publishes the SAPIENT protobuf schema files on GitHub. Those are the authoritative sources.

This site is an independent developer resource. It doesn't replace the standard. It collects the practical tooling you need to implement it. More about this site.
